Interplay's new combat racing game for Sony PlayStation arrives at retail

Irvine, CA, January 13, 1998 -- The checkered flag has dropped! Red Asphalt for the Sony PlayStation will be racing off the shelves at retailers everywhere. The new futuristic racing/combat game from Interplay Productions, featuring gritty characters and deadly weapons, has just released in the retail channel, the company announced today. The action is fast and the stakes are high in Red Asphalt, a game that combines the adrenaline rush of racing competition with bloodthirsty action shooter combat. Players opt for one of six greasy characters, each with its own bad attitude and racing style. Aligned together, they compete in inter-galactic races of doom to end the tyranny of the supremely evil Draenek.

"Red Asphalt is the must-have racing game for the PlayStation," said Chris Parker, producer for Interplay. "Drivers are earning and learning as wins are rewarded with car and weapon upgrades. The racing field has never seen a game like it!"

Red Asphalt's racing action courses through 25 challenging levels on four stylized, deadly planets in this innovative new title. Real time physics allow players to experience all the cornering, speed, and powerslides of true automotive racing as they speed through a futuristic L.A, Hell World, Neo-Tokyo and Cloud World before entering the final "Arena of Death" for the ultimate showdown.

Further distinguishing Red Asphalt is the selection of six cars, each with its own upgradeable high-tech armor and weapons - both offensive and defensive. As players win races, they are awarded purse points that can be used for trade-ins or upgrades as the competition heats up.

Red Asphalt also features some of the most breathtaking 2-D and 3-D art ever seen on the Sony PlayStation, all of which was created in-house by Interplay's award-winning team of artists. A driving, techno-industrial soundtrack completes the experience.

Red Asphalt can be played in single player mode, or two player with Sony Multi-link. Gamers also have the option of first- or third-person perspective play.
